The local government body that manages North Adelaide’s rubbish disposal for rate payers has chosen resource recovery and waste management company SUEZ Environment to conduct kerbside collections.
The company, which until 2015 was known as SITA, was awarded a new eight year contract from the Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority (NAWMA) that will commence in March 2017 and is valued at approximately $8 million annually.
NAWMA coordinates the kerbside waste management collections for the Cities of Salisbury and Playford along with the Town of Gawler.
Its new agreement with SUEZ will enable the company to carry on servicing more than 115,000 households across Adelaide’s northern council areas.
The deal is the first major contract with local government has been announced by the company since its rebranding in March 2015 when SITA Australia and Degrémont and Process Group announced that they would be coming together as one organisation and one single brand.
The rebranding now makes it a subordinate to SUEZ Environment in France, which expects operations in Australia will become the largest within the group’s international division with almost $1.5 billion in revenues and more than 160 sites across Australia and New Zealand.
SUEZ’s General Manager of Collections for NSW & SA, John Hassett, said SUEZ was excited to continue its 20 year working partnership with NAWMA to provide a local waste management solution in a community that cares about its impact on the environment.
“SUEZ will be investing in a new fleet of next generation Compressed Natural Gas trucks which are not only quieter but significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 20 per cent,” Mr Hassett said.
Mr Hassett said SUEZ is also proud of its contribution to the local economy.
“Our focus on employing locals and contributing to the local economy will continue. More than 90 percent of our employees reside within the local council areas,” he added.
